The proverb says you "can’t see the forest for the trees". Sometimes it is true.

In Fromelennes, we say: "Our forest hides one of the most beautiful jewels of tourist interest in the north of France: Nichet Caves".

With a determination to participate in the general development of regional tourism, and more specifically of green tourism, the municipality of Fromelennes has decided to offer its residents, holiday-makers, tourists and visitors to the caves, facilities that respond to an ever-growing need to practice an activity in a natural setting. That is why we have created a fitness trail in the forest.

Nichet forest covers an area of over 20 hectares.

You will discover a plateau and hillsides which are already marked by forest paths and footpaths that allow walkers to discover, season after season, the evolution of the plant and animal life that is so rich in this part of the region.

The plateau itself covers 11 hectares, which are almost flat.

This location has enabled the installation of a fitness trail with stations located on both sides of the existing paths with short access paths leading to the various stations.
Situated in open areas and with the agreement of the French Forestry Office, the stations did not require major tree felling or trimming work.
A little levelling and clearing were sufficient to preserve the natural charm and attractiveness of the site.

The trail itself consists of 16 stations distributed in a figure 8 that enables users to use the large or small trail between the “Start” and “Finish” signs.
Each station has a pictogram illustrating the movements to perform.

An information panel has been installed near the caves. It indicates the distances and directions to take for each trail.
